Volunteer Relations Manager

The Volunteer Manager will recruit, cultivate and manage relationships with volunteers and organizations to further the mission of RISE.


  • Recruit and cultivate new volunteers through 1:1 meetings, speaking to community groups, tabling at community events and presenting volunteer opportunities to organizations. 
  • Coordinate in-prison events for volunteers including: collecting clearance forms and waivers; ensuring volunteer orientation is completed; compiling and sending volunteer lists to facilities; communicating event information to volunteers; checking volunteers into events the day of and being available to them during the event 
  • Manage volunteer relationships with VIPs and various stakeholders
  • Oversee volunteer data entry and tracking in RISE’s database, meeting deadlines, and disseminating pre-event information and thoughtful post-event follow up 
  • Coordinate post-release events for volunteers and RISE’s formerly incarcerated clients by providing volunteer recruitment, event support and thoughtful post-event follow up
  • Plan and implement the onboarding, matching, and evaluation of mentors for RISE’s formerly incarcerated clients participating in the post-release program
  • Respond to inbound volunteer inquiries by effectively articulating RISE’s programs and volunteer opportunities; use good judgement to place volunteers in appropriate roles; onboard volunteers effectively so they are well prepared to help RISE’s currently and formerly incarcerated clients 
  • Provide top notch, proactive customer service to RISE’s clients, volunteers, and donors
  • Attend and participate in RISE program events, both in-prison and post-release. This includes events held on nights and weekends


  • Impeccable written communication skills with meticulous attention to detail
  • A balance of conceptual and strategic skills; an ability to see the big picture and develop processes and protocols
  • Strong verbal communications skills with the ability to interact successfully with a diverse constituency while maintaining a professional demeanor
  • Superb time management and organizational skills while working under pressure
  • Flexibility in regards to deadlines and changing programmatic needs
  • Familiarity with databases and proficiency with Microsoft Office applications
