Living on the Nebraska Sex Offender Registry
Your loved one has Been put on the sex offender registry
Living on the Registry can seem overwhelming. Nebraska Statutes, Nebraska State Patrol’s Rules and Regulations, and Support Groups are the best places to find accurate information. Individual law enforcement individuals (probation officers, correctional staff, police officers, etc.) may not have reliable sources for information on requirements or municipal restrictions.
If you've been convicted of an offense requiring registration with your state's database, YOU will need to make sure you're meeting all of your obligations under the law. Failure to do so could constitute a separate criminal violation and reincarceration. Please seek out more detailed information contained within the resources provided here or speak directly to a local criminal defense attorney.
Levels of Registration
There are 3 different lengths of registration - 15 year, 25 year, and Life - which have the same reporting requirements but verification calendars vary. Required registration length is determined by the offense one is convicted of. Individuals required to register for 15 years can request a reduction in registration to 10 years. Refer to Nebraska Revised Statute 29-4005 for information on registration durations and how to request a reduction in registration period.
Time spent incarcerated, on probation or on parole does not count toward your registration time. Registration time clock starts once an individual is off paper.
Types of Reporting
There are two types of reporting that is required of individuals living on the registry. The requirements are the same for those living, working, and/or attending school in Nebraska. All registering and reporting must be done in person.
Initial Registration: First time registering at a State Patrol Office - must happen within three working days of being subject to registry or release from incarceration.

Lifetime - birth month and every 3 months after
You MUST report all changes to residence, school, and/or employment in person at your county sheriff’s office within 3 days. For example, changing residence must be reported within 3 working days once your move occurs.
Reporting Requirements
Everyone who must register is required to report any changes to address, employment, schools, and name changes within 3 days at a Nebraska State Patrol location or prior to release from incarceration. The statutes do not provide timelines for registering other required information but reporting as early as possible would be our recommendation. All registrations and verifications will be made in person and on the same form.
Required information:
All addresses individual lives at or frequents such as your mother’s or a co-parent’s home (better to be safe than sorry)

Restrictions
There are various types of restrictions: presence, residence, and employment. Presence restrictions determine where one is allowed to be. Residence restrictions determine where one is allowed to live. Employment restrictions determine where someone can work (if they have had licenses revoked, etc.)
Restrictions are not determined by the Nebraska Registry. Any employment, housing, educational, etc. restrictions are at the discretion of the city, county, employer, school, etc. The Registry laws can only direct the legally mandated information required to register within your state. City, county, and state laws will identify restrictions.
